FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
5:30 PM SUNDAY (20 January 2008) - VIGIL/MARCH
WHAT: VIGIL/MARCH - Because a series of "hate crimes" have been reported to have been committed against a Hispanic/Latino family in Benbrook, Texas. Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department (817) 884-1212 asks for leads as to who the perpetrators may be.
WHEN: 5:30 PM SUNDAY (20 January 2008) - VIGIL/MARCH
WHERE: 4745 Bucking Bronco Drive, Benbrook TX - by intersection of FM-1187 and Mustang Creek Drive. Between the highway US-377 and FM-2331
WHO: We invite the Benbrook community, LULAC, NAACP, people with kind hearts and oversight by local and federal authorities. We are looking for a priest and/or minister to make the invocation for the vigil.
As seen and heard on most networks, news papers and radio stations this week. The main body of events started on Monday , 07 January 2008, wherein a Hispanic family has been terrorized by, yet unidentified, individuals with racist/terroristic graffiti, building/vehicle vandalism, gasoline dozing of one of the adult victims and physical attacks.
Victims interviewed: Mr. and Ms. Bara (grandparents) , Mr. & Ms. Jose "Joe" Garza (parents) and a young Latino daughter. Mr. Hector Carrillo, District XXI LULAC TX Director, and I have spent many hours on this issue in direct contact with the family. The family needs crime victim support especially for the child and women. This family appears traumatized and in fear for their lives. There has been a wonderful outpouring of support from the Metroplex by a wide cross section of fiber and make up of our region as to race, ethnicity and nationality. God bless you all.
This family says that they are "...like a prisoner...we want our lives back . We’re good people."
We stand ready to march, pray and lend the family our hearts and support. This Sunday 5:30 PM.
Reportedly, about 13 reports have been filed with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s department and 911. But no one has been found guilty of these alleged "hate crimes." I have been in touch with Mr. Dee Anderson, Sheriff Tarrant County. He assures me that the investigation is active and open. They have told me that they will provide oversight at the event on Sunday.
This E-Mail is being sent to concerned friends, LULAC leaders and the US Department of Justice CRS (Community Relations Service) etc.

The picture below was taken by Lico Reyes at the scene of the alleged crime.
It shows racist/terroristic graffiti on the vehicle.
This vandalism is considered a "HATE Crime" due to the racial slur
"Die Spice" (i.e. "die spic)" spray painted on the car.
